June 2006 - Bottelary
Primary Benefits From Food For Thought

At a recent award ceremony held at Bottelary Primary School
in Kraaifontein, local winemaker Danie Steytler of Kaapzicht,
and member of the Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG), presented the
children with new sporting equipment and sports clothes for
the school’s teams. These items, as well as the renovation
of the school’s kitchen, were paid for by funds raised
at the CWG’s Charity Auction held in October last year.
The school was invited to design a picture for
the label of a 12-litre bottle of Bordeaux-style wine comprising
a blend of wines from 18 members of the CWG. The bottle, entitled
“Food For Thought”, was purchased by Dion Poggenpoel
of Brown’s Restaurant in Johannesburg and raised a whopping
R11000 for Bottelary Primary School.
The CWG’s Charity Auction forms part of
the annual Nedbank CWG Auction, which is open to the public.
The 2006 Auction will be held at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset
West on Saturday 7 October. For further enquiries or to book
to attend the Auction, phone Kate Jonker on 021 852 0408, e-mail

The Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG) was established
in 1982 by eight independent winemakers who shared a vision
of creating premium South African wines that would receive benchmark
recognition both locally and abroad.
Today, the 37 members of the Cape Winemakers
Guild share that same vision and, through the exchange of knowledge
and the evaluation of top wines from around the world, Guild
members have established themselves as leaders in the art of
winemaking.
In 1999, together with its Auction sponsor Nedbank,
the Cape Winemakers Guild established the Nedbank CWG Development
Trust. Assisting with the social, educational and training needs
of those living in the wine growing regions of South Africa,
the Trust has contributed just over R900 000 towards the development
and empowerment of previously disadvantaged communities.
